Surrendering a Dog

If you need to surrender your dog, please be advised of the following:

1.  We only do small dog rescue (dogs under 25 lbs). 

2.  We do not do cats unless they are from our volunteers.

To help us place your dog, here are a few things you can do to ease the process:

1. Contact your dog's veterinarian. Get a copy of your dog's shot record and medical record. If your dog is due to have shots, please consider having this done. It makes things much easier for the new family.
2. Make some notes about your dog, such as what kind of dog food s/he eats, treats, toys, habits (both good and bad ones), any information that you think would be useful to a new owner.
3. Contact our Executive Director, Janie Hopper, at 530-276-9364, to discuss your situation. You will be asked about the reasons for giving up the dog, the dog's habits, likes/dislikes, etc. Please be up front about any problems (health, behavioral, etc) your dog has, so that we can do our best to find a good match for your dog.
4. You will also be asked to complete and sign a Previous Owner's Consent and Release Agreement, which will contain a summary of the dog's history and a waiver of liability.
5. Please consider making a Tax-Deductible donation to help your dog to find their permanent home.
